Translating English in to Japanese
Video, Slide and Essay on the Bottom
My project is translating product descriptions and parts of the website for Hana Naia. My mentor is Matt Williams and he owns Hana Naia( it is a company that sells essential oils). I did 3 translations in total for this project as planned. I did this project because I wanted to use and improve my bilingual skills to better myself and to help me in my future. Also due to COVID, I wanted to make sure I had a project I can work on no matter what the circumstances are
The 3 Translation:
✩ The first translation I did was translating a product description for a product called Coffee Berry Essential Oil.
This challenged my Japanese skills and I learned how long and hard it is to translate writing into another language.
✩ The second translation I did was checking the translation that a computer made and then fixing it. It was easier than the first one but I learned how unreliable computers are at translating.
✩The third translation I did was translating the instruction for the Coffee Berry Essential Oil. From this, I learned sometimes that your schedule can be changed from things you can't control. I got the thing I had to translate a little late so I was unable to complete it when I had to present to 3 different classes. But in the end, I was able to finish it on time.
From this project, I improved on many 21st century skills. The first 21st century skill I improved upon was Self Direction skills because to translate I had to re-write so many times to translate correctly. I also greatly improved my Informational skills. I had to research all the words I did not know before I even started to translate full sentences. The last major 21st century skill I used was Communication skills. I had to communicate with my mentor every week to decide what I am doing for that week. Also from this, I got better at phone calls and writing Emails to people I am not familiar with.
